What is Anat Baniel Method® Neuromovement®?

The Anat Baniel Method® Neuromovement® uses slow, gentle, pain-free movement to connect the brain and body, and relies on the 9 Essentials (principles used to help your brain learn). Movement speaks directly to the brain and introduces new possibilities for learning and development. These new possibilities may include easier movement, less pain, emotional stability and awareness, better coordination, new movement patterns... the possibilities are endless! We are never too old or too young for our brains to make new connections, learn new possibilities and improve the quality of our lives.

Laura (BMR PT) practices the Anat Baniel Method® as a certified Neuromovement® practitioner. For further information visit The Anat Baniel Method website.

The 9 Essentials

  1. Movement with Attention: As you move bring attention to what you are feeling as you move. The brain will make new connections bring new possibilities and transformations.
  2. Slow: You need to slow down in order to learn a new skill and feel what you are doing and sensing. Slow catches the brain’s attention and creates new neural connections. You can only do what you know in a fast way.
  3. Variation: Add variation to all that you do, even in what you may think of as a simple, basic task. Variation adds play and brings a new dimension to routine movements. New possibilities will be created in your movements, thoughts, emotions and actions.
  4. Subtlety: Decrease the amount of force you move, think and speak with. This helps the brain perceive the finest of differences and increases the learning in that moment.
  5. Enthusiasm: Is an internal amplification of delight in what you are experiencing. This is a choice you can make and enthusiasm highlights in your brain what is important to you.
  6. Flexible Goals: Enjoy the process instead of focusing on the end goal. Flexibility takes away the pressure to get it right the first time and the feeling of failure that can accompany this pressure. You don’t have to give up on the goal or change it, try to embrace the imperfections: “mistakes” actually create crucial distinctions that help move toward the end goal. This attitude also makes it easier to take advantage of unexpected opportunities.
  7. Learning Switch: For the brain to do it’s job and learn, the learning switch needs to be turned on. Why you are alert, aware and receptive to the environment around you, your learning switch is on.
  8. Imagination and Dreams: Imagination is a powerful tool to help the brain discover and create possibilities that were not there before.
  9. Awareness: Awareness is an action. To be aware of what you are thinking, feeling and experiencing in the moment is to have an alert and learning brain. To be present and aware of yourself in the moment provides a learning environment instead of living in a routine, automatic environment.
